egalochori village is situated about nine kilometers from the town of Fira. The village is surrounded by vineyards as well as traditional settlements, which are connected by small paths constructed by volcanic stones.
he churches of Ag. Anargyri, "Isodia tis Theotokou" and Agios Nikolaos Marmaritis are worth seeing. The last one is all made with marble. The church kept its Doric style of the 4th century after its conversion to a Christian Orthodox Church.
egalochori in Greek is translated "the village of the big" because it was at one time the home of Kings and presidents which visited the island.
