The traditional way of life
The customs and ceremonies surrounding weddings in Crete today.

One of the characteristics of the Prefecture of Herakleio, is the cultural continuity from the dawn of human civilization until our days.
This continuity is well seeing into traditional lifestyles they live today, mainly in the central mountainous and southern parts of the Prefecture.
The local people during the centuries have created a way of life of their own.
Traditions are kept up at Arolithos
This is caused by the regional idiosyncrasy. The locals are very proud, generous and above all, lovers of fun.
The local dancing group.
The visitor, beyond the legendary local hospitality, can enjoy a large amount of folkloric scenes and to watch rare moments of a unique cultural heritage. It is so delightful to relax, drinking one of the delicious local wines or the famous "raki" and "tsikoudia", watching local dances.
The most famous among them is 'pentozali which directly come from the ancient Minoan dance known as "pyrichios".

In the villages of the Prefecture, everyone feels like a member of the community, participating and acting within the framework of the local soul. The Prefecture of Herakleio is a wonderful land, a real spectrum of magnificent natural and monumental beauty. Between this spectrum, are the local people.

Ultimately it is the people who color the land and impart a unique character that is unmistakably their own.
