The attractive lake in the Melisani cavehe largest of the Ionian islands, is a place of natural wonders, rare beauties and mysteries. The island is famous for its peculiar geological phenomena, unique in the world. In the beautiful capital Argostoli, the sea pours into swallow-holes and disappears endlessly into subterranean tunnels. The water appears again at Lake Melissani, a divine semi-underground lake of indigo colorations. Nearby is the Drogarati cave, a spectacular stalagmitic cavern. The lake Avythos is so deep that local tradition makes it bottomless. Kounopetra, southwest of picturesque Lixouri, is a rock which made a small, rythmic, non-stop motion until the 1953 earthquakes.

Picturesque villages highlighted by tiny fishing harbours; a little further over, ruins from all the historical periods, monasteries side by side with vast beaches. Finally, the Cephalonian mysteries like the "Our Lady's snakes", the "Our Lady's lily", the animals "with gold and silver teeth" and the goats which don't drink water for six months, create a fascinating atmosphere.
