he attractive harbour of Katapola consisting of three separate districts built on the slopes of the hills, which overlook the sheltered bay. It is the most southerly of these hills, the highest and the most imposing. Chora, the capital of the island, stands at a height of 320 m. and is linked with Katapola by a 5 km. road. A stroll in its picturesque streets with their gleaming white houses, typical examples of Cycladic architecture, is to be recommended. Aiyali, the island's second port, is situated in the northern part and has an excellent beach.

Hozoviotissa Monastery, Amorgos ozoviotissa Monastery is not only the most interesting monument on the island, but is one of the finest monasteries in Greece. It was built around 1017 and renovated in 1088 by the Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus. It has fine icons and important relics. What, however, makes it so impressive is the position in which it is built. It is perched on a vertical rock, 300 metres above the sea. It has a magnificent view out over the open sea.

morgos is a calm island with its own devotees, which visit the island almost every year. The island has to offer a lot of things to the visitor who wants to escape far away from the noisy heavy developed tourist destinations.
